A Cornerstone of Greenlandic Hospitality and Community

Locally rooted and committed to sustainability

Hotel Sisimiut is more than just a hotel—it is an integral part of the Sisimiut community, combining accommodation, dining, tours, and a shop to offer authentic Greenlandic experiences. As a locally owned business, we are dedicated to promoting sustainable tourism while preserving Greenland’s culture and natural resources.

Supporting local Hunters, Fishermen, and Farmers

Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our close collaboration with local hunters and fishermen. We carefully assess catches and quantities to avoid overfishing and overhunting, ensuring that Greenlandic traditions can continue responsibly. Our menus, both in our eatery and catering services, showcase locally sourced ingredients, emphasizing the flavors of Greenland.

We also actively support local agriculture, guaranteeing significant purchases from Sisimiut Fresh Greens. Their homegrown produce is a key part of our dishes, reinforcing our commitment to fresh, locally sourced food.

Sustaining local craftsmanship and culture

Beyond food, we invest in local artisans, ensuring they have a stable income year-round, even outside the tourist season. By purchasing handmade crafts through structured agreements, we help sustain Greenland’s cultural heritage while offering visitors high-quality, locally made souvenirs.

We also support cultural and sports initiatives, including vocational training for students, career fairs, children’s sports clubs, the sled dog association, and cultural events such as those at the Taseralik cultural center and the Arctic Sounds music festival.

A family-Led vision for Greenlandic adventure

At the heart of our vision is Anette Grønkjær Lings, who grew up in Sisimiut and has a deep passion for developing the town and its surrounding wilderness. Together with her partner Bo, she has built Backcountry Greenland, a universe of experiences that includes Hotel Sisimiut, wilderness lodges, fly-fishing camps, Backcountry Tours and Greenland Dog Adventure, an initiative dedicated to preserving the Greenlandic sled dog.

The next generation is also deeply involved, with Julia leading the training and development of our many sled dogs, ensuring that this cherished tradition continues to thrive.

An invitation to experience authentic Greenland

With a philosophy centered on authenticity, sustainability, and a deep connection to nature, we invite our guests to explore Greenland’s pristine wilderness while actively supporting the local community.

At Hotel Sisimiut & Backcountry Greenland, every visit is an opportunity to experience true Greenlandic hospitality while contributing to the preservation of its people, culture, and nature.
