Greenlandic Hospitality and Community Engagement

Prioritizing Local Engagement and Sustainable Sourcing
Our philosophy is built on creating value for the region by prioritizing local engagement. This includes close collaboration with local hunters and fishermen, where we jointly assess the need for catches and quantities to avoid overfishing and overhunting. Our menus, both in catering and at the eateries, reflect this approach, offering dishes deeply rooted in Greenlandic ingredients.
Supporting Local Initiatives and Economic Stability
As part of this sustainable approach, we support local initiatives such as Sisimiut Fresh Greens by guaranteeing significant purchases of their fresh, homegrown products, which always feature prominently in our dishes. Additionally, we ensure stable income for local artisans by purchasing their crafts year-round, even outside the tourist season, through agreements that provide them with financial security throughout the year.

Engaging with and Supporting the Next Generation
For us, building strong relationships with children and young people is key to being an active part of the local community. We support vocational weeks in local schools, career fairs, and welcome a significant number of interns and trainees. Furthermore, we provide tangible sponsorships for children’s sports clubs, the sled dog association, and cultural events, such as those held at the Taseralik cultural center and the Arctic Sounds music festival
An Integrated Experience of Greenlandic Nature and Culture
This vision has led to numerous activities and initiatives, now brought together under the experience universe Backcountry Greenland, with Hotel Sisimiut as a central part. Together with her partner Bo, Anette has created a framework that integrates accommodation, dining, excursions, wilderness lodging, world-class fly fishing, and projects like Greenland Dog Adventure, which focuses on preserving the Greenlandic sled dog. Julia, as part of the next generation, plays a key role in this work, overseeing the development and training of our many sled dogs and ensuring the company continues into future generations. Her work ensures that the tradition of Greenlandic sled dogs not only endures but thrives as an integral part of our experience universe.
Authenticity, Sustainability, and Community-Driven Tourism
With a philosophy that combines authenticity, sustainability, and a deep connection to our surroundings, we invite our guests to explore Greenland’s pristine nature while contributing to the local community’s development and well-being.
