Explore Sisimiut’s backcountry on an ATV (all-terrain vehicle).
Sisimiut is one of the few towns in Greenland with a gravel road extending approximately 10 km into the surrounding backcountry, offering a unique opportunity to explore the rugged wilderness.
The tour begins with an introduction to the ATVs, both via video and individually, ensuring everyone feels comfortable with the vehicle. We start by driving through the sled dog town and crossing a small bridge over the local river with crystal-clear drinking water. From there, we follow the old gravel road, stopping at several viewpoints along the way before reaching the end of the trail near the shooting range.
Before Sisimiut had its airport in 1998, the town relied on a gravel runway. We visit this historic landing strip, where we can enjoy stunning views of Kangerluarsunnguaq Bay and the town, before heading back via the sled dog area.
Riding an ATV can get dirty, so we recommend wearing clothes that can handle mud and dust. It is also possible to rent a suit and rubber boots at the reception at Hotel Sisimiut.
Please note: In Greenland, a valid driver’s license is required to operate an ATV. If you don’t have a license, you’re welcome to ride as a passenger.
