Boat cruise to Assaqutaq

Embark on a beautiful cruise into the Amerloq Fjord as we make our way to the abandoned settlement of Assaqutaq.
Immerse yourself in the life of a small settlement from the mid-1900s. Our guided walk will take you through the entire lifecycle of the community, covering everything from birth and living conditions to work in the factory and the eventual resting places of its residents.

The settlement remains mostly untouched since the last families moved out 50 years ago. Some of the houses have been converted into a summer camp for local schoolchildren, giving Assaqutaq a special place in the hearts of the people living in Sisimiut.

Exploring Assaqutaq will provide you with a deeper understanding of Greenlandic society throughout the 1900s, revealing how people lived, the challenges they faced, and how they survived the harsh Greenlandic winters. It will also present an opportunity to experience true peace of mind, a rarity in today’s world but extremely cherished throughout Greenland.

When you are on the ocean, you will have the opportunity to sit either inside or outside on the boat, depending on your preference and the weather. When walking around Assaqutaq, bring clothes suitable for the weather and good shoes.

Unless otherwise specified, the tour requires a minimum of 5 fully paying participants to proceed. If the required number of participants is not reached before departure, and the tour must be canceled, an alternative departure will be offered, or a full refund will be provided.
