Hike back in time and follow the Footsteps of the Inuit. Experience 4,000 years of Greenlandic history.

Embark on a hike through Sisimiut’s rich history, tracing over 4,000 years of human life in the area. This journey explores the highs and lows of Arctic survival, revealing how the Inuit adapted to harsh winters and eventually encountered European traders and colonizers. Along the way, you’ll discover the key events that shaped Sisimiut into the vibrant town it is today.

The hike leads to Sallinnguit, or “Tele Island,” home to the local phone company. Once a separate island, it held great significance for early inhabitants, with remnants of their way of life evident in the landscape, including their homes, hunting grounds, and final resting places.

As we traverse this historically rich area, you’ll hear captivating stories about survival, adaptation, and the interactions that made this location valuable for both the Inuit and later European visitors.

Please note that the hike can be challenging due to varied terrain, so sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are necessary.
