Embark on an exciting journey into the legendary Sisimiut backcountry, home to the renowned Arctic Circle Trail. Traverse the newly constructed ATV trail through breathtaking landscapes, where every kilometer draws you closer to Greenland’s raw and authentic beauty.
The tour begins with an introduction to the ATVs, ensuring everyone feels comfortable with the equipment. We then gently head out of town, passing through the sled dog village, home to numerous Greenlandic sled dogs. The journey continues into the backcountry and up to Nasaasaaq Valley, where towering peaks create a dramatic backdrop. Following a safe route along the valley floor, we explore this magnificent terrain.
Our first stop is at the Waterfall Passage, where we park and walk to a stunning waterfall along the Assaqutaq trail. Here, you can experience a unique Greenlandic moment by filling your bottle with crystal-clear mountain water, tasting of snow and stone. The adventure continues into the Sisimiut Highlands, reaching the ACT Lake, a vibrant hub for the Arctic Circle Race in March. In summer, the tundra landscape exudes a tranquil beauty, enhanced by the profound silence when we turn off our machines.
The tour culminates at the Arctic Circle Viewpoint, offering a pause to soak in the scenery, capture photos, and enjoy refreshments. From this vantage point, 500 meters below lies the Kanerlusaqsuk Tulleq fjord, and to the east, 130 km of untouched mountains stretch toward the majestic Greenland Ice Sheet – where the eye meets infinity.
Before returning, we tackle the famous descent to Qerrortusok Majoria, known as “Murder Hill” by Arctic Circle Race skiers. This descent offers a thrilling sense of adventure amidst the rugged terrain. On the way back, we pause to take in the westward views of Nasaasaaq Valley, Sisimiut, and Davis Strait. The tour concludes with a serene ride through the sled dog village, returning to Sisimiut with unforgettable memories.
