Assaqutaq trail transfer

Begin your adventure with a scenic boat transfer from Sisimiut to the stunning settlement of Assaqutaq, now a summer camp for local schoolchildren. Upon arriving at the picturesque natural harbor, take a moment to explore the remnants of this once-thriving village.

The trail begins at the eastern end of the settlement, crossing a suspension bridge before the hike back to Sisimiut. As you set off, the journey kicks off with a steep ascent featuring metal steps, gaining 10-12 meters in elevation. Once you reach the plateau, a breathtaking view unfolds—on one side, the glistening fjord stretches out before you, while on the other hand, the majestic Nasaasaaq mountain range rises dramatically against the sky.

As you trek along this beautiful path adorned with colorful cairns, you’ll encounter the old whaling station, Qerrortusoq, and a burial site, offering glimpses into the rich history of the area. The trail meanders through lush terrain, providing even more stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

The hike typically lasts around 5-6 hours, giving you ample time to soak in the natural beauty of Greenland.

Safety and Preparation
Check the weather conditions before your journey, prioritize safety, and bring any necessary personal gear. In addition to sturdy footwear, be aware that the trail goes through varied terrain, which can get slippery. A trail brochure is available at reception, but it should not replace a proper hiking map if you find one necessary.

Minimum Participants:
Unless otherwise specified, the tour requires a minimum of 5 fully paying participants to proceed. If the required number of participants is not reached before departure, and the tour must be canceled, an alternative departure will be offered, or a full refund will be provided.
