Want to experience Greenlandic dog culture, even when the snow is gone?

Although the dog sledding season only lasts from November to April, the Greenlandic sled dogs and their traditions live on year-round. On our Dog Carting Tour, you can experience riding with the dogs during the summer months, where they pull a specially designed wheeled cart instead of a sled.

On the tour, you sit in the cart while the local musher stands at the back, guiding the dogs through the green summer landscape around Sisimiut. For your safety, you will be provided with a helmet before departure. The dogs love being on the move – it gives them an active routine outside of sled season and is an important part of their training and wellbeing.

The adventure takes you into the tundra, where you will experience Greenland from a whole new perspective: flowering hillsides, the midnight sun, and crystal-clear streams. Along the way, there are breaks for photos, and your musher will share stories about the dogs’ daily life, the challenges facing the culture, and the conservation work behind Greenland Dog Adventure as a program.

When riding with the dogs, it is important to dress for the weather. The summer in Sisimiut can be both warm and surprisingly cold, so dress in layers. You can also rent a suit and rubber boots at Hotel Sisimiut, where the tour also starts with an introduction.

Important note: We do not recommend the tour for people with back problems.

Remember: when interacting with Greenlandic sled dogs, you must always respect them and always listen to your guide’s directions and instructions.
