Embark on a spectacular adventure along the legendary Arctic Circle Trail, connecting the Greenland Ice Sheet to the coast. Ride on newly developed ATV trails through breathtaking landscapes, where every kilometer takes you deeper into Greenland’s rugged and authentic wilderness. This day trip unveils vast mountain sceneries, reminding us of our small place in this immense Greenlandic landscape.
The tour begins with a thorough introduction to the ATVs to ensure everyone is comfortable with the vehicles. We then set off from Sisimiut, passing through the sled dog town, where Greenlandic sled dogs offer a unique welcome. Heading toward the Nasaasaaq Valley, towering peaks provide a dramatic backdrop as we follow a safe route along the valley floor, passing through the scenic Waterfall Passage.
We ascend into the Sisimiut Highlands, following the path by the ACR Lake, renowned as the heart of the Arctic Circle Race. In summer, the area transforms into a serene tundra, enveloping us in profound silence when the engines are turned off.
Continuing along the Arctic Circle Trail, we reach the Arctic Circle Viewpoint. Here, we’ll take a break to enjoy the majestic panorama, refreshments, and absorb the scenery. The fjord Kanerlusaqsuk Tulleq lies 500 meters below, while 130 kilometers of remote mountain terrain stretch toward the iconic Greenland Ice Sheet, offering a true sense of infinity.
The adventure really starts now as we descend the renowned Qerrortusok Majoria—dubbed “Murder Hill” by Arctic Circle Race skiers. With extra safety instructions from the guide, we navigate the slope. At the fjord Kangerluarsuk Tulleq, we continue to its base and cross a river without a bridge, assessing the water levels carefully before crossing.
From there, the trail heads east over a small ridge into a rugged delta area. The terrain is technically challenging, requiring attention as we navigate deeper into the wilderness. Following the river, we reach the Nerumaaq Valley, where steep cliffs rise dramatically on both sides, showcasing nature’s grandeur and raw beauty.
After a well-deserved break with lunch and some armrest, we head westward. Though retracing our path, the landscape reveals a new perspective as we descend through the Nerumaaq Valley, ascend through the Sisimiut Highlands, and return through the Nasaasaaq Valley.
During the return ride, we take short stops to enjoy the scenery. The tour wraps up as we pass through the sled dog town and arrive back in Sisimiut—hopefully, with tired arms and hearts full of adventure.
